Margie’s Muse was born in the autumn of 2001, inspired by a colorful dream of being surrounded by creative people showing and selling their wares. The day after that dream, a friend asked Margaret if she’d like to share a booth with her at a fair in Manchester. That fair happened on a cold October windy day, and Margaret figured that she’d find a space to rent that had heat and walls so she could weave while waiting to be discovered. Jamaica Village became the home of her shop, which over time attracted over 200 craftspeople and artisans who brought their work to sell on consignment, which created a beautiful, unique and eclectic display.
After a couple years, it was apparent that having yarn and tools to sell would help inspire folks to engage in their own creative processes, and slowly a good selection of luscious yarns filled the shelves. And then, of course, the knitting circle and classes followed. Over time, less and less weaving was happening, and so the decision became clear after nine years in the village to move from being a store to being a weaving studio, where the creative process can more easily be allowed to freely unfold.
The yarn is still available and will be for sale on the Etsy store, or by email or phone (see links for available yarns on the Color Play page). The current inventory of woven pieces are also on Etsy, and the best part is that Margaret is available to weave your custom piece for you. Call or email for consultation about your special weaving. I’ve worked with wool, alpaca, silk, rayon, tencel, hemp, handspun dog fur yarn, buffalo fiber yarn, yak yarn, camel yarn, linen, cotton… if it’s string, or anything resembling it, I want to make something with it. And I make the string, too – special spinning requests are welcome and will be charged an hourly rate. Collect your dog fur to have spun into yarn for you to knit – or have me knit or weave it into fingerless gloves, a hat, scarf, or ruana. It is the warmest most comforting and soft thing you’ll have. Custom knitted items, too.
